Meet the writers, actors, producer and sound engineers who turned the book 'Boswell's Galloping Farmers', which was launched at the Centre in 2024, into a six-part audio drama.
Boswell's Galloping Farmers
1915 Gallipoli. And an Ayrshire soldier's first-hand account of life in the hell of the Helles Peninsula trenches.
This is now a six-part audio drama, faithful to the original and dedicated to Boswell's Galloping Farmers, otherwise known as the Ayrshire Yeomanry.
Alexander Barclay's memoir was written in the late 1970s and lay undiscovered for many years. In it, he recounts everyday life on the battlefield during the winter of 1915-16. The memoir was published in 2024, edited by Rob Close and William M. Watson and published in 2024.
Sound Escape Theatre specialises in bringing historic characters and situations to life through audio drama. When we read Sandy’s memoir, we knew we wanted to make it into a script and then a drama, to be available as a six-part podcast. In this series of short talks, you can find out more about how we did it We'll talk about some of the challenges and highlights; about the writers, the actors and the sound effects. We'll play clips from the episodes and answer your questions as best we can.
The episodes are free; the evening is free (and you’re free to donate!) We'd love to see you there.
